"let's be real, this is pretty much just the BNG Wiki at this point."

Q: What is Discord?

A: Discord is an instant messaging platform, divided into "servers" for specific communities or groups. Each server is then divided into specific chats for various topics or subsets of a topic, called "channels".

Q: How do I join this server?

Q: Does the server have any rules? What are they?

A: Yes, the server has rules. They are rewritten yearly and smaller changes may be made throughout the course of the year. If a change is made, no matter how minor, all members will be notified in the announcements channel to ensure the server remains a safe and fun environment for everyone involved.

Q: What are DMs and PMs?

A: DM and PM are two words for the same thing. DM stands for Direct Message, and PM stands for Private Message. These are messages you can send to specific people that other people cannot see. Every direct message sent will give the user receiving it a notification.

Q: What are "pings" or "mentions"?

A: "Ping" and "mention" are two different words for the same thing. You can mention someone by typing an @ sign followed by their username. This will notify them (a small "1" in a red dot will appear on the app and on the server and channel where the notification occured), and it will highlight the message for them. This can be very useful if you want to let a particular person or group of people know about something without DMing them.

Q: What is a "role"? How do I get them and what do they do?

A: Roles are specific tags that admins or moderators (server staff) can apply to people to categorize them for easier moderation, or to allow access to specific channels (for instance, all verified users get a role called "Official Member" which grants them access to al channels). Some are just easy indicators for people, such as roles that show the user's pronouns. You can also ping roles the same way you can users, which allows for multiple people to sign up for notifications for a specific thing. Roles can be obtained in the channel called "#get-roles".

Q: What is the "Pasta Fan" role? How do I get it?

A: The Pasta Fan role was awarded to people who were members of the previous chinafake server, Pasta Fan Club. There is no way to get this role without proving you were a member of this server.

Q: What does it mean when the rules say "all messages are logged"? Why are they logged?

A: All deleted and edited messages are sent to a specific channel when they are deleted or edited. They are logged for safety purposes only, and only trusted server staff have access to the logs. This means that if a user sends content that violates the rules, but then deletes it when another member pings a moderator, we will still have proof of the message. We generally will not punish users for messages they realized were rule-breaking and then deleted with no motivation to avoid punishment.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ping a moderator in the server or ask a question in the page comments. Happy chatting!
