Appearance[edit]

Lightning McQueen[edit]

This version is a depiction of Lightning McQueen with light blue eyes, a white tongue, silver door handles (despite the cars in the movie doesn't have) and the exhaust pipes are on the back bumper of the car instead on the sides, thus the "Medicated Bumper Ointment" sticker is omitted on this version. The number on the car can either be 95[1], 96[2] or 98 (small sized version only). His hood can either say "Rust-eze"[1] or "Happy Car"[2].

Tow Mater[edit]

This version looks like Tow Mater with blue eyes and white teeth. On each side of it there is a sticker that says "Toys medicated" and either "Rust-eze" or "Happy Car".

Sally Carrera[edit]

This version looks like Sally Carrera with light blue eyes (although it is just a recolored McQueen) and can come in red or blue. Its stickers read "Rush-Soa" and a "98" sticker is present on both sides of the car.

Functions[edit]

When turned on both the motor switch and the light and sound switch, the toy moves around with Bump and Go action while moving its eyes side to side and its mouth up and down. Its eyes light up and its headlights and tail lights flash. The toy can either play "My World" by Sophie, "Suerte" by Shakira, "Animal Fair" by 开心儿歌, "Axel F" by Crazy Frog or "La La Love on My Mind" by Ann Wisborn with horn SFX (despite Lightning McQueen lacking a horn).

The Tow Mater version can move its eyes but can't move its mouth. It can swing from side to side, its engine moves up and down, and its eyes, headlights, and engine light up. It can either play "My World" by Sophie or "Chica Boom" by Barbie Young.

The daredevil versions of Lightning McQueen can light up the top of the rockets (albeit only on the big and medium sized versions). They are known to play "My World" by Sophie (both big and small sized version) and "La La Love on My Mind" by Ann Winsborn (medium sized version).

The remote controlled versions lacks sound and music. Its eyes move side to side while its headlights, tail lights, and wheels light up.

Sizes[edit]

The Lightning McQueen version can come in three sizes:

  • Big - has two switches, one for the motor and one for the sound and lights. It takes four AA batteries.
  • Medium - has one switch for all the functions and takes three AA batteries.
  • Small - like the medium version, has one switch for all the functions and takes three AA batteries.

The Mater version only comes in medium size and Sally only comes in one big size.

Box Variants[edit]

There are 2 main box variants

  1. The original seethrough box variant for big and small sized versions: This variant says "Funny Car King" on the sides and top of the box and says "Lightning McQueen" on the front of the box. Above that, it says "Motor-Driven". The box has a green cardboard backing.
    1. This version of the box reads "He's the fastest thing on four wheels. Just ask him." (but only on the medium version) and on the front says "Lightning McQueen Funny Car" with a picture of the toy. It has the Chang Qing logo on it, and includes a cardboard backing with a panorama printed on it.
  2. The newer non-seethrough box variant for big and medium sized versions: This variant reads "Funny Car", on the front shows a picture of the medium sized version with a black windshield, missing the 95 stickers and "Lightyear" sponsor tires, but with a yellow mouth. On the sides it says "He's the fastest thing on four wheels. Just ask him." and shows the mouth movement function. This box was most likely made by another company. [3]
    1. The artwork is reused from the original medium seethrough box variant.
    2. For the medium sized version the windshield is in silver rather than black like the big sized version box.[4]

Trivia[edit]

  • A pull line with bell version exists.
  • The Funny Car King on the toy's non windowed version of the box that reads "Funny Car" has no eyes and numbers.
    • This may have been because the image of the toy is a prototype or edited for copyright reasons.
    • The box also shows blue and green variants of the toy, these two alternate variants may have been supposed to represent The King and Chick Hicks, two characters from the first "Cars" movie.
  • A few variants of the Lightning McQueen version have been made in recent years.
    • Variants of all three sized McQueens that were based on his daredevil appearance from the Cars Toons: Mater's Tall Tales short, "Mater the Greater" exist. There are also versions of the big and small sized variants that don't have rockets on the top.
    • A variant of the big sized McQueen in his World Grand Prix appearance from the second film "Cars 2" also exists. This version may have inspired World Champion.
    • Variants of the big sized McQueen in the color schemes of the two characters Cruz Ramirez and Jackson Storm from the third film also exist, dubbed "The World Of Car 3" on their boxes.
    • In later versions, the number 95 as well as the words "Rust-eze Bumper Ointment" on the Rust-eze sponsor logo, were changed to 96 and "Happy Car Speed King" respectively. These changes were most likely done to avoid copyright issues.
      • These changes have mostly been seen on recent models of both the big and small sized versions of McQueen and Mater. Also in the big sized Cars 2 design, the words "WGP", "World Grand Prix", "Hudson Hornet" and "Piston Cup" were replaced with "WPG", "World Champion Car", "Happy Racing" and "Motivity Cup" respectively.
  • There are also remote control versions of Lightning McQueen, Sally, and Mater.
    • The big sized version of Funny Car King uses the same mold as the RC version, hence why the Bump and Go big sized McQueen has a hole near the top of it. This was also done with the Mater version of the toy.
  • Others toys made by Chang Qing like Fire-Flag Paladin, Well-Known Funny Car and Police Super Car reuse parts from the medium sized version of Funny Car King.
  • There’s a similar toy called World Champion.
  • There is a picture of tiny Sally on the back of the small version's box.
  • Despite the name, Funny Car King is not based on a Funny Car.
  • If one were to put only three AA batteries into a big sized Funny Car King, it would still run, however the lights and sounds wouldn't work[5]. This effect is not possible to do on the other sizes of the toy as both the motor and the lights and sounds require all three AA batteries.
  • There is a theory that the Sallies were meant to play "Suerte" and the McQueen was a factory error.
  • Many people believe that the big sized version came first, while there is evidence to suggest the medium sized version was the first ever Funny Car King. On EPToys the big sized was dated in October 25th, 2006, however EPToys data is not always accurate to the release dates of toys.
  • According to MKToys, the medium sized Funny Car King was put on the site on August 26th, 2006. This means that Funny Car King was the first known "Cars" Bump and Go, as well as being one of the first knockoffs of the franchise.[6].
  • On the back of the original medium sized seethrough box variant, the font used for the "Lightyear" text on the McQueen's tires looks more faithful to the original font seen in the "Cars" movie than in the final product.
  • On the top of the roof of the medium sized version there's a molding hole covered by a sticker, which was later re-used for the sirens that Fire-Flag Paladin and Police Super Car have.
  • The audio sounds from from the old gen are bitcrushed, the new/old gen are distorted while the newer gen’s sound are more distorted
  • A Patati Patata version exists
  • The axels of the wheels have spots for LED's to fit in.
    • These spaces may have had a planned use during the toys early life span.
  • The medium sized versions of McQueen (both normal and daredevil) are manufactured by Chang Qing, while the big and small sized versions (normal, daredevil, and maybe Mater and Sally as well) seem to be manufactured by another company known as 'Chang Sheng', who have also made some other chinafakes alongside the 'Cars' related toys they made.
    • They've also made a smart car bump & go called 'Sports Car' which is similar in design to the other smart car toys made by Wen Sheng (Dance Spirit, Exquisite Car, Emulate Model, etc.), and it also shares some similar features to the big sized version of McQueen where they both take four AA batteries and have two switches (one for the motor and the other for the sounds and lights).
    • Only the mater version seems to have lead parts in it, while none of the Mcqueen versions are known to.[7]
